The CE marking concept offers great opportunities for manufacturers. The European Union now has one set of requirements and procedures that give access to one of the biggest markets in the world. The CE rules also result in much more design freedom. In many cases, obligatory 3rd party certification bodies can be avoided, leading to huge time savings and cost reduction.
On the other hand, the manufacturer has been made the main responsible person for CE compliance. This makes sense, because safety and compliance must be designed into the product, and it?s the manufacturer that controls a product’s design and manufacturing process. It is up to the manufacturer to arrange product compliance with his suppliers and distributors. In other words, the burden on the shoulders of manufacturers is higher because they are now fully responsibility for CE compliance, but at the same time there is more freedom, because there are less specific requirements.
In the CE regulations, the manufacturer has the responsibility to find out:
- which requirements apply;
- how to apply the requirements to the product design;
- in which way to prove CE compliance;
- how to document CE compliance;
- how to maintain CE compliance when regulations and standards change.
That is easily said, but a lot of manufacturers struggle with that.
This is exactly why I developed this course. You will not only learn about the background of CE marking, but this course shows you step-by-step how to get the CE marking for your products.
I hope you will participate actively in the discussions on the forums and in the live sessions. Please don’t hesitate to ask your questions or share your comments and suggestions.
